Hillary Jean Young (they/them) is a musician and vocalist working in experimental music, contemporary music, contemporary opera, and electronic music.
Hillary’s creative practice explores the intersections of gender, technology, corporeality, and queer experience. Hillary completed their DMA in Contemporary Music Performance at the University of California, San Diego in May 2019. Their dissertation, “‘She Uses They/Them Pronouns’: Finding a Non-Binary Voice in a Gendered World”, considers their operatic past alongside their queer, experimental music present.
